OpenAI pauses new subscriptions to the $200/month ChatGPT Pro plan; existing users can still renew
OpenAI’s Help Center confirms: starting September 10, 2026, new purchases and upgrades to the $200 Pro plan (Pro 20X) are temporarily paused, including upgrades from Free, Go, Plus and the $100 Pro plan.
This isn’t a complete shutdown of Pro:
• Existing $200 subscriptions will continue renewing as usual.
• New and existing subscriptions to the $100 Pro plan are unaffected.
• Cancellations or downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Once the original subscription ends, you won’t be able to buy the $200 tier again during the pause; you can still undo the change before the cycle ends.
No official date has been announced for reopening subscriptions. If you rely on higher usage limits, keep this restriction in mind before cancelling or downgrading.
